Personal Statement

My goal as a student athlete is play college basketball. My why is to be a role model for my family and make them proud. What makes me a good candidate for any team is my desire to be great. I believe I can conquer any challenge put in front of me. What makes me different from any other recruits is my will to get better even when I feel I have mastered a task. I am very coachable, a leader, great attitude, and I am a basketball player that is willing to fill in any role or responsibility to help my team win. My will to compete and to not give up or back down alone makes me better than any other player. I am a confident player who can facilitate and not only get shots for myself but create opportunities for my teammates. I am constantly in the gym to work on my craft because I believe in hard work, dedication, and that separation starts with preparation.

Keep an eye out for Mercado in the future. He has good positional size, which allowed him to earn minutes at the PG spot despite playing against tough competition. In addition to his size and frame, he was one of the best young passers I saw on the day, throwing several hit aheads and dimes, helping to create easy baskets for teamamtes.

A tough incoming freshman has a scorers mentality. He is a smart player who takes charges and will drive and kick like you should. He has no fear of big moments and was playing up two years impressively with no drop off. His range, confidence and IQ for the game stand out.

A strong combo guard who can score in bunches. The lefty has a good feel and toughness. He has deep three point range and can use a crow hop or euro move to score or get fouled. He made a huge and-1 down the stretch of the 15U Chip and has a clean shooting stroke. He could be a rare incoming freshman getting varsity minutes.

Jonathan is a smooth lefty with a nice stroke from 3, he displayed control in the lane with solid footwork. He's crafty around the rim finishing over bigger defenders.

2027 Jonathan Mercado, Arizona Unity Mercado is a downhill, fast player who gets up the floor in a hurry. His speed is hard to keep up with especially with the ball in his hands and the ability to play make at a very high level.

Jonathan has a confident shooting stroke that makes him an offensive threat from any spot on the floor. Defenders have to respect his pump fake because he is just as capable of driving the ball to the basket and finishing with a smooth left hand.
