Personal Statement
I discovered my passion for basketball when I began to play in the second grade. At every level of play, my drive to become a better player led me to seek out increasingly competitive teams, leagues and coaches. At the junior high level, our team was one of the “winningest” teams in school history, albeit a small catholic school! But the comradery and synergy of that team only reinforced my love of the game. Though my high school and AAU teams have not had the same success, it is in the losses that real lessons are learned and passion is fueled to become better as an individual and therefore better as a team. I have learned that self-discipline, motivation and focus are keys to success and have worked on developing these skills through basketball. I have also learned you must be unselfish in this sport. It is not about the “I” but about the “we” that will bring success. I have searched for those teams that truly work as a collaborative unit but also embody the spirit of competition.
I am looking for a program that resonates with my philosophy of team sport. I am searching for a program that will support me in fulfilling my goals not only as an athlete and student, but as a person. I am constantly seeking out ways to better myself. I am driven to win both as an athlete as well as a student. Playing basketball at the collegiate level poses the next great challenge that I will rise to meet.
