Hello, my name is Nathan Jaureguizar. While in college, I hope to continue to grow on the court as well as in the classroom and as a person. I have been playing basketball since I could walk. All my life I have been a great student. I am very coachable and I strive to learn. My work ethic is unmatched. Although quarantine and school shutdowns have temporarily kept us from playing organized basketball, I have still been driven to find ways to become the best I can possibly be. I have put in a concerted effort and my overall growth since the beginning of quarantine has been huge. I have gained 45 pounds and have been working on my craft. My shot and ball-handling are hugely improved compared to what they were sophomore season. I love the game of basketball and hope to pursue it in college.
I am very well-rounded on and off the court. On the court I have a high basketball IQ, I can dribble, shoot, post up, finish through contact, dunk, make tough shots, assist and play lock-down defense. I have massive hustle. But most importantly I am very coachable. Off the court I am a very good student with a 4.0 GPA. In my free time I paint shoes. I have a little business where I customize shoes for people, it is something that I am very passionate about and love to do. I work any small job that I can, I am a go-getter when it comes to working hard. I also like to cook, I make a killer scallop dish.
Although I was named Athlete of the Year in 8th grade, Freshman Player of the Year in 9th grade and Offensive Player of the Year my Sophomore Year, near the end of my sophomore season I recognized that to improve my game I needed to put on size. I only weighed about 140 lbs in late January. I made it my goal at that time to eat well and work out consistently. Just like anything I put my mind to, I have seen much success in achieving this goal, gaining 45 pounds and 2 inches since January, now in August weighing 185 lbs at 6’ 4.” Since this huge change I have seen a massive improvement on the court. I am much stronger and can be much more physical than I was before. I am able to finish tough shots against physical defense that I would have struggled with last season. Gaining size and strength was a massive challenge that I am continuing to accomplish, and my teammates and coaches keep saying they are amazed with my growth. I can’t wait to see the difference it makes when the season returns!
