During my first season playing on my high school basketball team, I played power forward and all I did was rebound. For me to love basketball so much and to be given that role was upsetting for me. I’ve always wanted to play point guard my entire life. I worked out Abe practiced every day that summer on my skills to possibly play point guard. Going into this season I was determined to become the next point guard of my High School team. After all the practices and all the reps, I became my schools starting point guard and it meant so much to me and it made me work even harder to be the best point guard I can be. Through this experience, I realized that I can and will work harder than anyone to achieve my dreams. I aspire to play point guard or shooting guard for a college team. I am a competeter and I want to compete at the college level. What makes me a great candidate for any college team is raw talent. I didn’t grow up playing in youth basketball league, I grew up shooting a basketball at the gym and in my backyard. My high school is not a High School designed for sports. My school is a high school aimed towards education and not sports. Because of this, we didn’t have a lot of basketball games, didn’t get the coaching we could’ve gotten, and didn’t get the support we could’ve gotten. So for me as a high school basketball player, I haven’t even come close or reached my potential as a player. I’ve had to work under very difficult conditions. The biggest thing that sets me apart from other athletes is when it comes to analytical evaluation of the game. I have a very analytical mind and when I play basketball, my analytical side comes out. My coach has put the ball in my hands many times because he knows that I’ll make the best decision. I am also not selfish. I have no problem with playing a game where I score no points but get 10 assists. I want to win, I don’t care about how many points I score, I just want to win. My infatuation with winning gives me the will to make the best decision to put my team in a position to win and not be selfish. Once you meet me and see how I play basketball you’ll see untapped potential in my game. I will work as hard as any coach needs me too and I just need a coach who can show me the way.
