Personal Statement
NEW Weight Throw: PR 50-4 Western Colorado University 2/19/22
I joined a YMCA team in the 4th grade and fell in love with basketball. My parents were supportive and helped me find a coach, personal trainer, summer camps and a travel/club competitive team as I got older. Hard work, positivity and the drive to do better are parts of me that I go to first when I have any obstacle to overcome. Covid and the shut downs were tough obstacles for sure. At the beginning of the shut downs, I joined as many basketball skills join.me classes that I could find, I did virtual camps, my sports performance coach hauled weights to my garage to get my weight lifting in, I ran outside, you name it ... I was desperate to stay the course of my goals. Since Shot Put and Discus were outside, I decided (with a little encouragement from my trainer) to give a couple Discus and Shot Put sessions a try. I was hooked after trying it a couple times! It felt weirdly natural when I was throwing and I wanted to learn more of the technique. My goal after High School is to compete in Track & Field (Shot Put & Discus) in an environment that promotes the student athlete. I may be on the younger side for my grade, but I bring maturity to my academic goals and to my dedication to improving my performance. The pandemic may have derailed me from a lot of things over the past year, however it lead me to Track and Field!
I am 6',1" 220lbs with a 6'5" wingspan
- After picking up the discus in March 2021 ...Within 3 months I placed 11th at State for 5A division in June 2021
