Personal Statement
Kia ora Coach, my name is Kahuranaki Treacher (Kahu). I am a 17 year old 6'9, 225 lbs Small Forward/Combo Guard that plays for the Saint Albans Varsity Basketball Team. I am also a member of the 2023 New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks National team.
I am a young New Zealand Maori athlete with a willingness to learn, a positive attitude and a desire to succeed on and off the court, as well as in the classroom. The completion of the Athleadership Academy through NCSA has helped me plan ahead and I will be an excellent addition to any team, not only as an athlete, but as a student and team leader too.
Though I have played other sports such as Rugby and Soccer, Basketball is my happy place and I just love the game for as long as I can remember and the challenges that come with it. My academics are very good and I believe it is due to my work ethic on the court transferring to the classroom and vice versa.
I am a reliable perimeter shooter that is also capable of penetrating and finishing in the paint. I am aggressive in protecting the rim and fighting for rebounds, whilst being able to defend and play any position on the court. I am one of the top players in all of New Zealand for my age group, which has allowed me to finish my high school at the highly academic St.Albans School located in Washington D.C, where I will be playing this years Basketball season.
