Personal Statement
Hi Coach,
My name is Tylen Mayes and I am a senior at J.M. Tate High School, Cantonment Fl. I am a Forward, but am coachable for any position granted. I grew up playing in church leagues, and have also played overseas for 4 years while my family were stationed overseas in Japan. Overall, I have been playing basketball for over 7 years. Unfortunately, as a military child moving every 2-3 years in most instances, did not allow time to get grounded with a team. However, I made the best of every situation ensuring I worked on my game IQ to ensure I have a foundation to still be an asset to any team. I must admit it has been difficult to be the “New Guy” all the time, trying to prove I too belong on the team. Most of the programs I joined, players were already set and zoned to be on the team. I used that as my motivation to persevere and made the J.M. Tate Basketball team. Also in my junior year I was invited to participate on the Florida Dream AAU Team, but a few weeks into practice, our season was cancelled due COVID-19. I had worked so hard to achieve this goal, but did not let it deter me from my passion to play basketball beyond high school. I look forward to starting my basketball career while also performing academically. I have the length, ethic, and determination. I would love to continue playing basketball at the collegiate level and to also earn a degree in Computer Science or Business. Currently I have a 3.2 GPA.
