Personal Statement
Playing the game of basketball has allowed me to learn a lot about myself. Basketball is such an emotional game. My emotions towards the game of basketball, which leads my better judgments, will emerge in full force while processing and translating information quickly on and off the court. Also, having the ability to pursue the positive in situations, allows me to embrace the type of growth mindset that will help shape my character. From an educational stance, I am on a relentless pursuit of a high-quality education. My goals of graduating from high school with a diploma, while working on my college AA degree at the same time, keeps me grounded educationally while acknowledging education is undoubtedly the biggest key to my success.
Determination is a mindset that has been my driving force in my pursuit of the game of basketball since I was three years old. The loss of both grandfathers, while earning second place in all three years of my middle school basketball finals, created an unbelievable will and determination to succeed no matter the obstacles. My ability to see something positive in any negative situation, along with my uncanny ability to see and feel the flow of the game, will allow me to help lead the team through difficult situations. Those are just a few of my unique characteristics and skills in playing the game of basketball.
As I continue on my journey, I have endured several encounters that have influenced the person I am today. When I was younger, I traveled around Florida playing in different basketball leagues. It was an honor to improve my skills at the Nike Basketball Camps. For the last three years, I have experienced a tremendous growth by playing within the AAU basketball circuit. My most valuable experiences came in the form of observation. Growing up the youngest in a house of seven, I was fortunate to watch my older siblings play sports and watch their commitment and dedication while understanding at an early age what it took to become the best player I can be.
