Personal Statement
I was about five years old when I started playing basketball in a league at my local gym. That was the league that started it all for me. Because of that league I was recruited for a travel team which helped me to develop a greater understanding of the game and a basketball IQ. I have been attending skills camps with a respected coach since I was about 12 years old. My participation in those camps has helped me to develop my passing skills, shooting skills, and ball handling along with strengthening my basketball IQ. In addition to basketball, I participated in Taekwondo for nine years which helped to develop my discipline and leadership skills. I won the State Championship as a black belt for my age group. I am always looking for ways to improve athletically.
My experience in high school basketball has shown me how much I love the family aspect of being on a team and working together. This has carried over to my other activities such as my community service work with my church where I have participated in mission trips to the Bahamas and to hurricane ravaged Mexico Beach, Florida where I helped to rebuild a church. I am looking for a program that values a strong team family, sense of community and academic excellence and in return I will bring leadership skills, my basketball IQ and a my ability to stay calm and help my team get through high pressure situations.
