I have many goals that I intend on achieving through a strong work ethic, and a motivated attitude that I exude in all aspects of my life. My collegiate plans are to go to FSU as an Engineering major and to ideally play for their basketball or football team, or to be a part of their Athletic department in any way I can. As a well rounded athlete, I know how to maintain my composure and focus on getting the job done for my team. I never lose my temper because I believe a calm, focused mindset helps me facilitate the goals of my team, while also keeping me humble and looking for ways to improve my abilities. I try to be the best leader I can for any team I am on and have often been faced with obstacles in this task, but I like leading my team and do what it takes to get us to achieve our goal, whether that be to win, to play with heart, and to always come do so with our heads held high. For example, a couple of seasons ago our football team was down six points and many of my teammates were feeling defeated. Without any prompting, I took my team aside and gave them a pep talk to remind them of what we were there to do, and that was, to play to the best of our abilities and to go down or to win with a fight and with pride. I am proud to say we were able to win that game and it was a time that I will always cherish. As a middle school student, I worked really hard to get promoted to my correct grade level, as when I was in third grade, my father was imprisoned and I was left with no real father figure and with a single mom and four siblings, so needless to say, I had trouble in elementary school as a result. I had a lot of pent up anger and shut down in the classroom, thus leading me to being retained in third grade. This was something that always embarrassed me, so when I was given an opportunity to advance in my grade level, I took it and ran. I made straight A's and worked in the summer to be moved up, and I accomplished this promotion, and since then have maintained a high grade point average, always getting A's and B's in my high school career. Furthermore, I pride myself on giving back to my community. I have been a community volunteer for our local recreational center for the past two summers, and have plans on continuing this endeavor this summer as a basketball coach for 10 - 12 year old males. I will always give back in a meaningful way to my community; my community has always been there for me and I believe it is a great part of my purpose to give back to them. In closing, I am a leader on and off the field and on and off the court, and I know what it takes to be a winner!
