Personal Statement

My name is Joe "Jojo" Philon III. I stand 6 foot 8 inches tall and currently weigh 160 pounds but I'm drinking milk and hitting the weight room daily! I'm a Freshman (c/o 2026) and I play the guard and forward positions at Blake High School in Tampa Florida.    

I have honors classes and currently hold a 4.0 grade point average. I'm a member of the Junior National Honor Society and I’m interested in attending any college regardless of location. 

Playing basketball on the college level is something I would really like to accomplish and something I work towards every day. While deciding on a school I will be making my decision based on basketball, but also the culture and the academic prowess the school holds. I would like to focus my studies in videography and photography. 

On the court I feel I bring a lot to a team. As it relates to intangibles, a lot of what I do, does not show up on the stat sheet but it does make my team and teammates better. I'm a hard worker and I love to facilitate and play defense. I'm always trying to find ways to get better, and I respond well to criticism. 

In closing, I believe these traits make me a good option for any college program.

On this team I am playing one grade level ahead, and the team played up another year up against class of 2024 all summer which means I played 2 years up this summer. We went 24-4 on the season playing in Hoop Seen and OTR Battleground Tournaments as well as AAU, US Amateur and other independent tournaments.

  • Notes: I have played for this organization for 2 years now. We are a national team comprised of a group of players from the Central Florida Area that traveled the country to compete against top teams in the nation. In those 2 years we went 70-12, finishing the season runners-up in the Under Armour Future National Tournament with a 3-point loss.
