I am a good candidate for your team because, for the past 9 years of my 17 years, I have been working towards my goal of being selected to play and succeed at the collegiate level. Through sports and community service, I have acquired life skills such as working successfully with others, sharing ideas, demonstrating flexibility and humility competing and functioning as a team. Coachable, able to adapt to different situations and information quickly. A combo guard, strong perimeter defender with strong ball-handling skills to create scoring opportunities for my teammates.
Last year during my junior year of high school my family was disrupted with a crisis. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Initially, I did not know how to respond to her diagnosis. I withdrew from friends, family, and school for a few months. Watching my mother fight to stay alive gave me the initiative to use the life skills I had learned from her as well as the game of basketball. My High School Varsity teammates, as well as AAU teammates coaches and parents, were empathetic and supportive. to help me deal with the distress of my mother’s illness. She is Cancer free and I look forward to seeing her in the bleachers cheering me on.
This school year I am flourishing, earned Master Sergeant in the JROTC, working alongside teachers and counselors, manage my time and stay on top of my school work. I volunteer at the local homeless shelter to help feed and clothe the homeless as well as mentor youth in my community. My mission is to develop into an excellent basketball player and outstanding student-athlete.
I am not just another athlete but an investment in a future leader in society. I have aspirations of being in a position to give back to my community after finishing my education. Selecting the right college that aligns with my skills and ability to compete at the highest level possible is my ultimate goal..
