Personal Statement
My name is Austin Copper, and I am currently attending LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I graduated class of 2012 from Clarkston High School located in Atlanta, Georgia. In high school, I played varsity basketball (as a starter) three years out of my four years. During that time, I was selected as Defensive Player of the Year twice, selected to the Dekalb County Player of the Year team my senior year and graduated with honors. In addition, during my high school career, I attended basketball camp at Georgia Tech under the direction of Coach Paul Hewitt; where I was named the best 1 on 1 player.
Currently, I am a 6'1 combo guard and studying computer engineering at LSU. As a Freshman, I was invited to try out for the basketball team, where I made it to the end of the tryouts. Unfortunately, due to an untimely ankle injury, while trying out, I did not make the team. I then realized my dream of playing basketball is not over. I continued to work hard, as a Sophomore, I was selected to join the LSU Women's Basketball practice team; I am proud to say the team made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. I have been working extremely hard to remain physically fit and prepared to be an asset on a team. Prevailing, I have been training with Coach Derrick Hamilton (former professional basketball player), and I am fortunate to say I am at 100 percent as I pursue my goal of playing collegiate basketball.
