Personal Statement
It all started in middle school when my friends wanted me to try-out for basketball. I thought it would be a fun experience and I would be able to hang out with all my friends, granted I had never played basketball before, but I decided to try-out anyways. Try-outs came to a close and I had gotten cut, I was in shock. I was determined to make the team at all cost the next year. I worked on my game everyday during the summer and that time of year came around again. I felt better than last time by the end of it, but I soon found out a few days after that I had been cut for a second time.
I felt like the whole world was crashing down on me and that I would never be good at basketball, but I kept going and the next year I made the team! The assistant coach told me '...I earned this...", and since that happened last year, all my friends have seen me grow as a player and become better than I thought I would ever be! This event in my life showed me what real perseverance is and what hard work can do! This made me into who I am as a player today and what my coaches admire. Furthermore, I plan to use these morals throughout my life, not just on the court. I want to be a ACADEMIC-athlete, a leader that teammates can depend on and go to in times of struggles, and someone who coaches can look at and respect for the Godly man I strive to be.
