Personal Statement
Basketball has been a big part of my life from as far back as I can remember. When I was little I would go to every practice with my dad, who was a coach, and I always looked up to him and the players he coached as role models. I gained a great love for the game through this. My dad had always told me stories about how Malad would dominate every year and place in the state tournaments almost every year they played and I always wanted to do that. Ever since I can remember, our team has struggled to even make a showing in the district, so one of my main goals was to be part of the team that brought Malad back to its former glory. This year I completed that goal by being one of the leaders that brought our team to state for the first time in 14 years and won the consolation trophy.
Throughout all of my education, I have made it a goal to keep a GPA of 3.8 or higher and I have succeeded at that for the most part. Throughout all of my basketball career, the main obstacle that I have had to overcome is confidence. In my earlier high school years, I never felt I had the confidence to play to my full potential. Finally, in my senior year, I have started to overcome that problem. I lead the team in many stats and this year and I feel like I am just now beginning to play to my potential. Some of my strengths are that I am very coachable and I learn very quickly, and I am also a team player that has the ability to make those around me better. I hope to continue my basketball career and contribute to a college team while furthering my education.
