Personal Statement
My athletic goals are to continue to work to get stronger and quicker, and develop my basketball skills so that I can continue to play competitive basketball in college.
I just finished my Senior season, in which I led the area in scoring (24.1ppg) and rebounding (10.3rpg) and ended my High School career as Cerro Gordo's 4th all-time leading scorer (1,359 points) and 5th all-time leading rebounder (708 rebounds). I was a team captain, voted by my teammates as MVP, and named by the coaches as unanimous 1st Team All-Conference. My season contained some incredible moments, including scoring 48 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in a 1-point victory at the Decatur St. Teresa Holiday Tournament, scoring 40 points with a game-winning three with 2 seconds left, and making 7 threes in a single game.
Even though our team was young and inexperienced and our schedule was very tough, I was proud of our effort. Teams did not take us for granted, even with our losing record. High School basketball was a great experience and helped me advance my skills and my level of confidence. Now I am hitting the weight room, working on drills and looking forward to fulfilling my dream of playing college basketball at a great school.
While basketball is a passion, I realize the importance of an education in achieving my aspirations to become either a youth minister, and potentially a pastor and/or a coach. I have been working extra hard this school year to continue to improve my GPA and my study skills in an effort to be as ready as possible for college.
