Personal Statement
I have been playing basketball since I was 6 years old. I started playing at the local YMCA and from that first moment of holding a basketball, I knew it was my sport. I grew up in a basketball family as my parents both played at the collegiate level. Their passion for basketball has been passed down to me and has helped me become the player I am today.
I have participated in multiple sports over the years, but none have given me the growth, confidence and love of sport that basketball has given me. I enjoy being a teammate and leader on the court. To me basketball is more than a sport, it is a family. I have had the opportunity to have met some of my best friends today through the game of basketball.
This year of basketball was very exciting for me as I was captain of my Fresh/Soph team that finished 21-4 and I worked my way into a varsity position where I became the sixth man. The school I attend is a small school that does not have try outs for the varsity team, so I had to prove to my coaches through my practice and play that I deserved a spot on the varsity team. The biggest compliment I received this year came from my varsity coach when, at our basketball banquet, he told everyone in the audience that I made him play me. That compliment only makes me want to work harder.
My goal is to take that hard work and dedication to the next level and have my college coach, whoever that may be, to give me the same compliment. At this point I am undecided as to what field of study I would like to pursue in college because I have a lot of different interests. I do know that whatever path I choose, I have the dedication and mind set to be a success.
