I started watching basketball when I was really young, we lived in Las Vegas and my Dad was/is friends with many NBA players. We would go to all the UNLV games. My dad got me playing basketball in Las Vegas before I was even in kindergarten. I fell in love with the game when I was 4 years old.
I have learned to achieve my goals of playing college basketball you have to be willing to sacrifice a lot. Sacrifice certain things that other people don't. You have to be dedicated, work hard and most of all push past what hurts. You have got to be able to get that last lap in or head into the gym to shoot 200 or 300 or even more shots when you are dead tired. When your friends want you to hang out at the pool you have to say no and go do your workout. I also have learned that you can't take things for granted and that nothing is promised to you. As bad as I want to play college basketball, I want to get a good college degree and be prepared for a good job. I like computers and gaming a lot.
I knew I had to become quicker and stronger and I knew if you can shoot the basketball with great consistency you are never out of a game. I constantly have a hunger to find a way to do more. To hit the leaper even when I'm dead tired. I have rolled my ankle and then sat in our bathroom with my foot in a 5-gallon bucket of ice for 15 minutes to recover and get back on the court.
I can tell you the first time I did it I never thought I would make it. That first 3-5 minutes is indescribable but you put your mind somewhere else because you know it's what you have to do. I like to be a great teammate and I try and make my other teammates better I don't talk a lot on the court but I can. I like to lead by example. I think how you work shows people who and what you are about. I'm a competitor when it comes to basketball, I hate to lose but I also am respectful when I do. I understand and believe good sportsmanship is a must. My Mom and Dad both put me in Karate when I was really young and that taught me how to compete. How to win and lose the right way.
