Personal Statement
It has been my goal to play at the collegiate level since I was a little kid. My mom has coached girls basketball for over 20 years and after attending one of her practices when I was little I knew that it would be a life long passion. Since then I’ve grown a lot, not only as an athlete but as an individual and I think it’s safe to say that my experiences on the court have had a direct impact on me as a person. Growing up in a house where my mom played collegiately has helped me tremendously because I know what it takes to get to the next level. I know how hard she worked to make her dreams come true and I know that I will have to do the same.
I’ve fought through tons of adversity throughout my basketball career and I think that’s the beauty of the sport. Sure it’s fun and I enjoy playing it but it’s also teaching me skills that I will have to apply later in life. The sport got tough for a couple years when the other guys were growing and maturing and I wasn’t. However, I think it was the best thing that could’ve happened because it made me work two times harder, I had to work on my skills and making sure I was the most efficient player on the court because I had to make up for what I lacked in size and strength. Eventually, I started to catch up with the other guys and just this past year I grew around 6 inches and kept those skills that I developed while I was undersized.
Basketball is a game of adapting and just when you think you’re good enough, you remember there is always someone working just as hard as you. That’s what keeps me motivated. Despite the challenges that have occurred in my career there is one thing that remains consistent, and that is that passion I developed when I was a little kid. I’m committed to keepIng that passion alive and look forward to playing at the next level.
