My name is David Kummer and I'm a guard/forward who stands about 6 foot 2 inches, weighs around 160 pounds, and has been playing since 2nd grade. I play at a tiny, private school called Christian Academy of Madison in Madison, Indiana, but have also played basketball at Hoosier Hills Hoops events in Charlestown, Indiana, as well as attending various basketball camps such as Hanover College, Indiana University Southeast, and local high schools. Most of my weight training comes through my personal garage where I have a gym set up, as well as going to Crossfit three or four times a week and taking advantage of their intense programs on my days at home. This comes through in my games, where I'm able to play any position, and can do all the things required of a team captain, both on the court and off.
Some of the biggest games so far have been when I scored 30+ points a handful of times my freshman year, averaging about 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists a game. My sophomore year was the very new school's most successful, winning all but one of our JV games and finish above .500 on the Varsity. I had similar scoring numbers to the year before, but my rebounds, assists, and shooting percentage were all improving drastically. I haven't matched the game in 8th grade where I had double-digit points, rebounds, blocks, and steals, good for a quadruple-double (in a loss, sadly.) Honestly, I don't expect to match that. I've been passionate about improving myself, through the workout regimes I mentioned and my dedication to practicing the different aspects of basketball.
When I graduate in 2019, I'll be the first basketball player from our school to play for all 4 years and graduate. My GPA right now is up around 3.8 on a 4.0 scale, but that doesn't take into account the nearly 2 years of college credits that I've completed. I hope to graduate from wherever I attend with my Master's Degree. As I mentioned, Christian Academy of Madison is a very new school, celebrating our 10th year anniversary only a couple of months before the time of writing. Each year, our players have gotten better, and the team has bonded together better than I could have ever imagined. We've worked hard to get where we are, and through all the losses we were looking forward to my Junior and Senior years, where we have a chance to compete for sectionals.
Off the court and outside of school, I'm a published author on Amazon, and an active member of the NHS. I just published my first sequel on there, and I've already sold 100 copies (in a week). My SAT score, taken in my freshman year, was a hair over 1200. I'll be updating that score as I retake the test.
If there was one word I could use to describe me, that would be coachable. I'm willing to learn, I want to improve, and I don't have a problem with sitting the bench and learning under great coaches and players until my time comes. I've had to be a team leader in high school, but my many experiences at different sites playing has taught me that being a team role player is also important.
