I did not begin to play basketball until 5th grade, so naturally I was already behind in my development compared to others. My love for the game didn’t come until middle school for me because that is when I began to catch up to others skill wise and have more fun playing basketball. My desire to play basketball in college developed my freshman year, but it didn’t take full effect until this past year when I became one of the main leaders on my JV team and my AAU team. I loved the feeling of playing at higher competition and wanted to play against the best players I could, and that continues to grow every day as well as my love for the game.
My freshman year, the varsity team at my high school made it to semi-state and I had to the privilege to go down and experience the atmosphere. I was greatly inspired by it and it made me want to be successful as well. It gave me the goal of winning the first state championship our high school has won since 1984. Overall it gave me a championship drive that I continue to use to motivate myself every time I work out.
Because of my late start in basketball, I was behind in skill and experience, so one of the important things I learned was how to be a team player. This allows me to be able to fit in any team for any program because I can adapt to the roles that I need to play. Now that I am a leader on my team, I remember what it was like being one of the lower level players so I want to not only help myself improve but also the teammates I will be playing with. Besides athletics, I have always pushed myself to the limits in academics, so this also allows me to be able to fit well in any program. Because of all these factors, I believe that I can make a great difference with any program. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
