Personal Statement

I've always loved competing in a wide range of sports, including track and field, soccer and football, but when I started playing basketball at 10 years old, I fell in love with the game. I think it's how there are so many ways to win and make an impact in basketball: Defense, Shooting, Rebounding, Free Throws, and working together to be better than any one of us could be individually.

A highlight for me was going to the Junior National championships in Australia, where I was a starter for the Sydney Comets 1st Division Representative team in 2018. We won bronze in the competition that year, and I averaged 6.8 points a game at nationals, and won Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) for that season. In fact, I've won DPOY for 3 of the 5 years I've played for the Comets, and attribute that to my motor, lateral foot speed and willingness to embrace physicality.

Over the past two years, while we've had gyms closed and tournament cancellations due to Covid, I've been focusing on my shooting so I can space the floor, and slashing and finishing with both hands. That's what I offer on the basketball court, a high motor, speed (I was a state level 400m and 800m runner) and an outside shooter who takes pride in playing hard, physical basketball on both ends of the court.

On the academic side, I have always loved math, science and psychology, so would love to explore what careers I can pursue that take advantage of my strengths there. I also play the piano a bit, and love music, so would enjoy getting involved in music engineering or the music industry, even on the business side.
