Personal Statement
I have always loved sports ever since I was little, but my first love is basketball. My dad introduced me to the sport at a young age and ever since then I have felt a real connection between myself and the game. My older brother also has had a big impact on how I grew as a basketball player and as a person. My family has been very supportive of me both on and off the court. I have learned that even on your worst days playing, your teammates still need you, and that if one part of your game is off, you cannot let it affect the rest of your game. I also apply this thinking into my lifestyle.
I have started on the Varsity of my high school basketball team (a 3A school in Iowa, which is the second largest classification) for my entire high school career. This has helped me gain the experience I need to better myself and improve all facets of everything I do. I will graduate high school with 13 Varsity letters. These experiences have greatly enhanced my leadership skills and gained trust and respect from my teammates.
I would really love to play basketball at the collegiate level along with receiving a quality education. I would like to go into business or animal science. I have a strong work ethic and I am very committed and dedicated to my studies and my game. I get along with everyone I meet, and work extremely well with others both on and off the court.
I have a very high basketball and academic I.Q. I fully respect my teammates and coaches. I think that these traits give me an advantage in the recruiting process, and will also help me become more successful in college. Being a four-sport athlete in high school is difficult, especially when my main sport is basketball, (my spare time is devoted to improving my basketball skills).
My ceiling for improvement is tremendous; not because I do not work hard now, but because I know that when I go to college, my game will improve greatly as I am only concentrating on one sport...BASKETBALL. I know wherever I decide to go that that school and men's basketball program will be getting a quality young man and student-athlete.
