Personal Statement
One of my most memorable events was the first time I dunked the basketball in our school gym during a game. Everyone went wild! It had been sixteen years since anyone had done that. It was an awesome feeling! I have loved basketball my whole life and I plan to continuing playing in college and beyond. My goal is to be a teacher and basketball coach. I have 5 older and very competitive brothers who have all played basketball. I credit part of my basketball success to playing with them constantly and being the underdog which made me work even harder! I have been a 3 sport athlete, a varsity letterman, and All League Player. I come from a 3A high school which perhaps has put me at a disadvantage by not being able to compete against larger, more competitive schools and players, but I have accepted that as a challenge by being more involved in MAYB, AAU, plus playing in summer and fall leagues, etc. I push myself constantly to improve, to always want to better my skills, to always play correctly.
I would be a great asset to your basketball program due to my level of commitment, I know how to sacrifice and to work extremely hard. I know I have not reached my full potential. I have worked with 2 different head coaches at my high school and many throughout the years. My coaches have told me and my parents that I am a very coachable player. I always have high goals of learning and improving. When I young I was usually the only one making most of the points. Since that time I have matured and now I am a "team" player because I believe that it takes a team to win, good players playing against great players just make each one improve. I am also a team leader and team captain. I am respected by my coaches, teammates, and classmates. I believe this happens because I respect them first.
It may sound as if I only live and breathe basketball (which I do) but I also have time for my family and my church. I also belong to the high school Kay's Club which is a service club for the school and our community.
I would be honored to be a part of your basketball program.
