Personal Statement

I have always loved the game of basketball and have played as long as I can remember. I am a gym rat and work daily on improving my game.  I am a leader on and off the court. I am highly competitive and refuse to be out worked in the gym or in the classroom. I maintain a 4.0 GPA, and have been recognized on the Principal’s Honor Roll every year.  I am interested in the field of engineering, and astronomy. I also enjoy playing football. I currently play varsity high school football as a LB/DE. This year  our football team won league, and had an 8-2 record. Prior to playing football, I played several years of competitive youth soccer. I also enjoy playing chess. I enjoy sharing my passion for basketball with my teammates as well as younger players wanting to learn the game. My goal is to play competitively at the collegiate level and to obtain an Engineering degree at a University that will challenge me on the court and in the classroom.

  • Prep Hoops KC Classic: 2023 Guard Notes 05/11/2021, The KC Classic year in and year out is always one of the premier events on the spring circuit. This year was no different with humongous talent pool, amazing atmosphere inside the arena, and teams battling it out from across the country. The next series of coverage will look at 2023 players who participated in that event that I was able to check out. Oz Elite guards Garrett Robertson and BJ Redic compliment each other well: In a game against 816 Hoop, these two really set the tone and played instrumental roles in the ball game. Redic did a great job out of transition and in the half court of getting to the rim and putting pressure on the defense. Robertson complimented this with tremendous 3 point shooting both off of catch and shoots and off the dribble in transition. Robertson had 14 in the game and Redic had 15. Both Guards do a great job flying around the perimeter on defense as well. Prep Hoops Unique Talents 05/18/2021, The spring tournaments have highlighted some guys with unique skills and physical attributes. Here are a few interesting players showing up at recent events. 2023, 5-foot-10 guard, Oz Elite-Haynes, Hutchinson: Robertson is a pure point guard. He can score with the best of them, but he understands his role and really runs the show. He’s got a ton of confidence, built from playing with players from the top level during summers. He plays with maturity and understanding #PHExclusive Saturday Notables 07/18/2021, Garrett Robertson, 5’10 G, Oz Elite-Haynes Hutchinson KS 23. Knockdown shooter. Floor General. Oz-Elite’s go-to wing shooter Robertson had an impressive performance against an Oklahoma team, scoring 15 points and knocking down four triples. Not much needs to be said about Robertson but that he is a high-caliber shooter with elite focus and marksmanship. Also an above average passer, a quick google search for Robertson will show an impressive high school reel of his Floor General capabilities. #PHExclusive: Under the Radar Floor Generals 07/19/2021, We are rounding up coverage for the Prep Hoops Exclusive in Dallas for the second live season and we had some great ball games going on throughout the weekend. We will look at some different positional groups and players that stood out in each area. Floor Generals: Garrett Robertson, 5’10 G, Oz Elite-Haynes 2023: A knock down shooter on the perimeter with solid handle and composure in the back court. Has a really solid feel for the game and takes great shots, makes the extra pass when necessary, and can create off the bounce for others. Good vision and IQ on the floor and makes the right play quite often. Prep Hoops 2023 Top Summer Performers– 1st Team 08/16/2021, Robertson has been getting it done against top competition for a couple of years now, and he continues to impress. He was deadly from deep this summer and he really knows how to run an offense and get the ball to scorers. He is creative and dynamic with the ball, one of the best pure point men in the state. Big School Coaches on the Floor 08/21/2021, Some guys just know how to run the offense, see the floor, get everyone in position, and get the ball to the right spot. They inspire with their hustle at both ends of the floor. They know what to say, at just the right time. They put their team ahead of their own stats, and they ensure that others around them succeed. Here are some of those figurative ‘coaches on the floor’ on the big high school level. Garrett Robertson, 5-foot-10 guard, 2023, Hutchinson HS; Oz Elite hands the reigns to Robertson and lets him run the collection of talented offensive talents. He is smart with the ball and has great vision, taking pride in being the straw that stirs the drink. Throw in that he shot with great precision this summer, and you have a point man who drew rave reviews this summer. National Notice-Guards 08/22/2021, It’s always interesting to see what people outside the state think of Kansas players. The locale Prep Hoops scouts try to get an intimate knowledge of Kansas Players, but the outside perspective can be quite telling. Here are a few recent instances of Kansas Guards. Garrett Robertson 5’10’ guard, 2023, Hutchinson HS (pictured) While we in Kansas are all aware of Robertson’s great handles and leadership, one national writer was most impressed with Robertson’s shot, calling him a “a go-to wing shooter...with elite focus and marksmanship.” There’s a lot to like about the Oz Elite point man’s game, as Kansans know. Updated 2023 Rankings: Biggest Risers 09/07/2021, Garrett Robertson, 5’10’ PG, Hutchinson , 4 spots: Had a great summer helping run the show in the backcourt for a really good Oz Elite team. A knockdown shooter who can also make plays off the dribble for himself at the rim or both others on kick outs or dump offs. Robertson will be a point guard to watch this high school season as he looks to lead Hutchinson to a big year.
