I think I truly learned what hard work and work ethic mean during my sophomore season. In the summer leading up to my sophomore year I came off the bench on varsity and played well, and was expecting to play solid minutes in the season. This was not the case. I played only few minutes in the beginning of the season, with much of those minutes being "garbage time." I also had to learn how to become a good teammate and role player. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't ecstatic with my slim minutes on varsity; But little did I know this would be the best thing for me. During that season I would stay for hours after practice - constantly trying to perfect my craft and just working myself to the bone. After the season ended, I kept working, focusing all of my efforts on earning a starting spot for the next season and knowing my work would eventually pay off. And it did. I came into my junior year feeling great and played very well in summer league. I earned my spot as not only a starter but one of the leaders on the team.
The moral of this story is that I know that nothing is given to me and if I want something I have to out work every single guy in the gym every single day, not only in the gym but in the classroom as well.
