Personal Statement
My name is Bennett Commander, and I am 16 years old. I am a Junior at Governor Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, Maryland. I’m 6’6" and weigh 220lb, and ever since I can remember; Basketball has been in my life. Many times I have been described as quiet. I take pride in allowing my basketball IQ and my game to do a lot of my talking for me. I am always working on my game on and off the court and developing that next play attitude. I am a coachable athlete, and a teammate who gives it his all, every play, every day.
As a sophomore, I started every game for my High School Varsity team. We had a successful season, finishing the year with an overall record of 16-8. My AAU team is the CBSA Hoyas. In the past 2 years we’ve played in 24 tournaments winning 14 of them including the 2016 East Coast Nationals tournament sponsored by Hoop Group at Spooky Nook in Manheim, PA. I know my role as a student athlete on and off the court, and I take it all very seriously. I strive to make honor roll every term and take courses that not only interest me, but challenge me to take my thinking further than is always comfortable. I love history and have just placed my name in the hat to hopefully be selected to attend the 2018 Maryland Boys State conference, which is sponsored by the American Legion.
As I enter the last 2 years of my High School career, I feel open to all the world has to offer, and I have a full understanding of how much commitment is necessary. I am ready. I am excited to see how my college years will help take my passions and develop me into the man I will ultimately become.
