Personal Statement

I have had a unique opportunity to play high school level basketball my first two years in a public high school at Linganore High. There I was a starting point guard both seasons until I sustained an injury (two fractured wrists) that caused me to miss the majority of my Sophomore/JV season. I trained very hard in the off season between my sophomore and junior year, strengthened my body and skills and recuperated 100% from my wrist injury. I transferred to a private Christian High School, Mt. Airy Christian Academy, my Junior Year where I just completed my season as the starting point guard and Captain on the Varsity team. My strengths are my speed, agility, and ability to drive to the basket. I have a strong court sense and presence and am able to make adjustments quickly, reading defenses and adjusting plays accordingly. I am aggressive and love to play defense. I am not afraid to go for the ball. I am Varsity Captain, and am proud of the fact that I am a team player, evidenced by the fact that I lead the team in assists. I believe in working the ball to all positions, but also taking advantage of open opportunities when they present. I offer encouragement to my teammates and have learned from mistakes and hard practice. I also believe champions are made in the off season, and faithfully work out 6 days a week, following a weight training, cardio, and basketball drill regimen. My current goals in workouts are to improve my strength, improve my shot, strengthen my defensive skills and improve my speed. My most important accomplishment was in this Junior year when I transferred to Mt. Airy Christian Academy (MACA) and led my team to their first winning season in the history of the MACA basketball program. I am honored to have been a part of a pinnacle year for the school, the team, and for myself personally. I led the team in scoring, steals and assists. I was awarded New Life Tournament All-Tournament team, the MACSAC First Team All Conference and the MACSAC All Star Team this 2009 - 2010 season. I was the leading scorer on the AAU Maryland Mavericks U15 team in 2008. I desire to attend a Christian college in a suburban area on the East Coast or possibly South and Mid-West. I am open to considering secular universities as well. My major is undecided at this time, however, I have interests in exploring career paths in ministry (Youth Pastor), Meterology, Business Management and/or Education. My goals for academics are to be an honor student that is able to balance academics with athletics. My athletic goal is to play on a team at the college level where I can make a difference and impact success. I desire to work hard, learn from teammates, respect my coaches, and be coached. I am focused, take myself and my responsibilities seriously. If I were on a college basketball team, I would hold myself accountable to work hard, be punctual, represent my team and myself with strong Christian character.

  • AwardsI have been an honor roll student every term in high school and received an Outstanding Academic Achievement Award my sophomore year from Linganore High School. I am a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and have managed to keep my grades high while playing Freshman, JV and Varsity Basketball for the past 3 years. I have also managed to balance academics and extracurricular activities with playing AAU basketball and being active in my church youth group and attending youth missions trips where I've served in the field working with disabled youth at a summer camp in 2009.
