"Athletic, coachable, sees the floor, quick hands, team leader, dependable, works in the off season" have all been statements used by my previous and current basketball and tennis coaches to describe me. My athletic goal is to play at the highest competitive level as possible. Since I first learned to walk, I have always had a ball in my hand. With an older brother who loved sports, I was always the catcher, the defender, and the ball boy! At age 5 (not yet school age), I was asked by a school basketball coach to attend his summer basketball camp that was only open to students in the first through eighth grades. At age 8, I was playing basketball on a travel team and two baseball teams, one being a grade level above my own. In high school, I have continued to train and work to excel in my choosen sports--basketball and tennis--during the off seasons by playing for an USSSA/NCAA basketball team (Southern IL Select), by attending contact days and shootouts with my high school team, and by taking private lessons from a tennis pro three hours away from my home.
This past year my teams and I have achieved many successes. In basketball, I am most proud of the team for making it to the county championship game; individually, I am proud of my SEMO Conference honorable mention and receiving our team's rebound award my sophomore year (a feat for the shortest starter on the floor at 5'9"). Although some would not be happy about an honorable mention nomination, I am. The SEMO Conference is one of the strongest conferences in our state with most of the players on the first team eligible to attend a Division 1 college, and I was given mention even after missing seven games due to a stress fracture. (During my four weeks off for this injury, I continued to maintain my upper body training regiment and drove an hour five times a week to do aquatic therapy for cardio and lower body until I was cleared--and surprisingly a week before the doctor anticipated I would be ready.) In tennis, our varsity team was undefeated district champions for the first time in school history, and my doubles partner and I medaled at state. I have maintained the #1 varsity position my sophomore and junior years, received the team's MVP award for two years, and received the award for most doubles wins during my sophomore year and most singles wins during my junior year. One goal I have set for my senior year in basketball and tennis respectively is to #1) break my high school's career 3-point record of 142, set by my previous basketball coach in 1997-98, and #2) to return to the tennis state championship for a third time.
For achievement of future goals, I am looking for a college that has accredited programs. I have no specific division preferences but would prefer enrollment larger than 1500 students. My preferred school would be located in the mid-west, south, east, or north and would consider a Christian university. I am looking forward to training and competing at the next level!
