Personal Statement
Growing up as the youngest of 6 siblings, I have had many great examples set before me. The three which I think are the most important, pertain to: my faith in Jesus Christ, athletics, and serving others. My parents instilled Godly principles into my life and allowed me to really see how living as a follower of Christ carries over into all areas. When I was 8, my faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior became my own and 4 years later I chose to be baptized. As I continue to develop and grow in life, I am consistently challenging myself to grow as an athlete on the court and a servant leader in my home and community. If I were to describe myself in a few words, I would say that I am respectful, hardworking, a team player, and a leader on and off the court. Sports have always been a big part of my life. My Dad played college and professional sports and all my siblings have played multiple sports, 4 of whom played women’s college basketball.
Through a supportive family, coaching, and examples of leadership, I am learning what it takes to be a competitive athlete. One thing my Dad often quotes to me is Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for man.” This verse motivates me whenever I am training or interacting with others and causes me to strive to do my best. Even though I enjoy several sports, basketball has become the one I’m most passionate about and I have a great desire to play at the collegiate level.
Just a few of the many opportunities I have had to serve my community while in high school include: coaching with SCORE International Ministries youth sports camps that have also provided me the opportunity to work with special needs youth through The Albert Pujols Foundation, working with special needs youth with United Way and a camp counselor at Strong Tower Ranch summer camp. These and many other life experiences have helped shape me into the person I am today.
My academic and career goals are to major in a Pre-professional Health science program and eventually serve as a healthcare professional.
