My Name is Gabriel St Germain. I started my passion for basketball in 3rd grade. I kind of just hit the ground running. I come from a family with 4 brothers. My parents are hard workers and have instilled being humble and kind into all of us. They have also taught us to never give up and work hard for what you want. That has been my mentality for longer than I can remember. I will always keep working hard every single day. Even when I am tired. I know there is no easy way out and no substitute for hard work. The balance of school work, personal life and the pressure from playing ball is alot, but I wouldn't want it any other way. As my mom reminds me daily, "We are all blessed with 24hours a day, Do your best to make the most of it."
To me being on a team is huge. I was raised to always put people first. There will be times in your life where things couldn't get better and you are floating on Cloud 9, then there will be moments where you aren't sure you can continue. Some games you will walk off that court with your head held high; others you will wonder what the heck happened and try to make reason out of it. Win or lose the most important thing is the teammates you have and the relationships you build with them. You spend so much time with your teammates they become like a second family, its so important to support each other and be there for each other. A team is only as strong as its weakest link. I have learned to never go out there thinking about yourself. Want the best for every teammate and always work together. There is no "I" in team. You may not remember every basket you made or every game you won but you will remember every teammate that was there for you and those special moments you shared together.
When I was in rotary basketball in 4th grade I was noticed by a Travel basketball coach and asked to join his team. I was very excited because it was a higher level and tested and enhanced my skill. I continued to play school ball as well as Travel basketball through Junior high. My mom got me a membership to the Summit here in Kalispell so I was able to play ball year round. I am here to tell you time goes by so fast. I have learned to cherish all of it. From the daily practices, to the 7am early bird weight lifting class. It's hard don't get me wrong but I know it is making me a better player as well as a better person in general. It has taught me discipline, how to work hard and most importantly how to be a good teammate.
I am very dedicated and I understand you have to live a certain way and be willing to give things up for your dreams.
My Freshman year of high school I was super nervous and excited as tryouts approached. My mom has always been very supportive and she gave me some great advice. She said " Buddy you got this, you have the skill now have the drive and confidence and go out there and put your all in." I remember going to tryouts the first day and there were 56 freshman trying out. I took a deep breathe, remembered what my mom said and put my all in. By the end of the week only 12 freshman made the team and I was one of them. I took this opportunity very serious and I learned alot that year from my coaches. Because of my dedication I was asked to play on the school summer league. I did that as well as attending the Gonzaga Summer camp.
Now I am in my sophomore year getting ready for tryouts again on Nov 28th. My goal is to make the JV Team. I live and breathe basketball and will continue to reach my goals of helping my team make it to state and get a scholarship for basketball to a great college. Just recently I was also asked to Join a local AAU travel team in mid March when school ball is done, I am very excited for that opportunity. Also I am currently helping coach a 5th Grade boys basketball team at West Valley School.
