Personal Statement

Howdy! My name is Charlie Schroeder and I will be a senior at Wynot High School.  I  live in a small, rural town in Nebraska and I am very interested in playing college athletics (football, basketball or track). My mom played basketball at Syracuse University and my dad was a player on the reserve national championship intramural men's basketball team.  They have taught me a great work ethic and helped me understand what it takes to become the best.

Here is a little information about my athletics so far. I have been very fortunate to be a 4-year varsity starter for basketball and football,  I also qualified for state track in the 4 x 400, 200 and 400 last year. Ultimately, I was able to bring home the silver medal in the 400! This summer,  I gave baseball a try and I was able to be a relief pitcher and pinch runner for our team.  Although our team lost in the first round, we did qualify for the Nebraska Class C state tournament and that had been one of our goals.

Last year,  we moved and I switched schools in December, going from a Class C to Class D program. My new team made it to the state tournament and I received an honorable mention all- state and was an all- conference 1st team. I am really proud of those things as I had never played with these kids before and I had to learn a new system in the middle of a season.

Another interesting thing about my life so far is that both of my parents are veterinarians and I get to help in the office and out on farm calls a lot. We currently have a TV show called Heartland Docs, DVM on National Geographic Wild and Disney+ and that has been fun to shoot, Although vet medicine is fun, I am thinking about a career in teaching or possibly working with wildlife.

Because of our intense filming schedule,  I could not do a travel basketball team this summer. But, our highschool team  competed in several college clinics and played in numerous local scrimmages to continue to improve and build our team chemistry. This was a great experience to do this because I am really stepping into the role of team leader and learning how to play under heavy pressure. I am learning how to take control of situations and how to get my teammates to do the same.

I love to compete and always try to make everyone better around me.

I also like to fish and train my horse when I get some free time.

Thank you for looking at my profile!
