Jamal Smith Personal Statement
Since a young 4th grader I have had a love and passion for the game. I have been playing basketball for 8 years and have experienced some of my best memories through playing the sport of basketball. As a student athlete I have gained some of my best hands on knowledge on the court. When I was young the persistence and drive that I had to become a better player had me sleeping with the ball and often walking around the house shooting the ball in the air to the point that people often asked "do you always have a ball with you?" There have been times of growing pains and injuries that have occurred that taught me that anything you want bad enough that you will continue to work hard for.
As a point guard, I am a good team leader and one of the things I love most is to get my teammates involved so that everyone is playing at their full potential. Defense is a strong suit for me as a player, often times causing deflections or getting a steal which leads to quick transition points. Over the last couple of years I have found that having a personal strong work ethic on and off the court is one of my strengths.
Academically I have worked hard over my high school career to maintain a solid and competitive GPA in order to play at a collegiate level. My dream is to play at a collegiate level in which I can contribute my talents and passion for the game. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right match at the highest level of competition possible.
