Personal Statement

Basketball is the most important thing to me because I have been playing it my whole life. It is what I go to to solve any problems I face. When I play basketball I forget about everything else around me. I have become not only a great player, but a better person because of it. I have been the captain of many of the teams I have played for, and I have learned to lead by example as well as communication. I practice very hard and can never settle with "1 more shot" when it's time to leave. That 1 shot becomes 100 before I know it. I have played organized basketball since 2nd grade and have recieved many awards from it. I have always been a leader, playmaker, and leading scorer for each of the teams I was a part of. During junior high (5th through 8th grades) I was the only 7th grader to make the "A" team, and started on that team as well. This team was also undefeated for most of the season and at the end had only 2 losses, one of those losses being in the championship game. The next year, in 8th grade, I was the only returning player, and I averaged about 15 points per game. Then fresman year I was the only freshman to make the varsity team, and I started for the whole season. Sophomore year was a similar story. I made the team and was a starter, but I suffered an ankle injury halfway through the season and missed 5 games because of it. After the injury I was not started right away but still averaged about 10 points per game in the few remaining games we had. At the end of the season I was the teams 2nd leading scorer. Just recently I attended a Five Star basketball camp at Franklin Pierce and did very well there. I lead my team, at the camp, to a championship. Afterwards I was named the Playoff MVP and was also awarded the title of Most Oustanding Player (MOP) at the camp. During the summer before junior year I played on 2 summer league teams with my high school team, and 1 men's league team at a sports facility in Derry, NH. As a class M team we were not expected to do well in these summer leagues, but we ended up becoming the Southeast New England Division Champions. In the following tournament we lost to Trinity, a contender in Class L, by only 4 in a very close game the whole way through. Junior year my highschool team made it to the quarter finals before losing to Berlin, the most succesful season I've had with the team so far. From the start of my junior year I was selected from the best basketball players in NH to play at the Northern New England Pre-season Showcase, the North vs. South Clash, a game between the best players of northern NH and the best players of Southern NH, and I have also been selected to play in the Northern New England Elite Positional Showcase at Southern NH University in June.
