Earning a starting point guard position on the varsity basketball team took a lot of hard work and determination. As a freshman, I started as the 8th man on the freshman team. I scored more than 20 points my first game and earned the starting point guard position on the freshman team. By the end of freshman year, I moved from 6th man to starting point guard on junior varsity and ultimately a spot on the varsity team. By junior year I was the starting point guard on the varsity team. As an AAU player up through middle school, I learned the fundamentals of the game at an early age. Sophomore year, I experienced an injury on the court. I was grateful to learn that I could fully recover, but I was devastated to miss time playing. My first game back, we faced a tough opponent and I knew my team needed me. I fought through the fatigue and battled for as long as I could physically to assist my team in a win. I have learned the value of teamwork, sacrifice and commitment. My experiences on and off the court have allowed me to become a good, humble player and has prepared me to excel as a student-athlete at the next level.
As a student-athlete, I value the educational aspect of my future in college. I am looking for a program that I can grow athletically as well as academically. I believe I have the talent to compete for a college team and the character, work-ethic and leadership skills to excel academically. As a two-sport varsity-athlete and captain, I know that I have what it takes to be a leader on your team.
