The first time I played basketball was when I joined my schools walk on team in fifth grade. This was my worst year for stats and best year for growth. I discovered I loved the game. During that season I went into my basement and practiced ball handling for hours every day. I practiced every day during the offseason and when the next season came around I felt ready. That year I shocked everyone with my progress and was the starting point guard for the middle school varsity team. This taught me that if I stay dedicated, persevere, and work hard I will succeed.
I also learned a very valuable lesson on the importance of being a great teammate and leader. I try to make my teammates shine through my passing, selflessness, and in-game control. I think about controlling the tempo and giving my teammates the best possible opportunities to shine. I always strive to be the player that coaches and players want to have on their teams because I make my team better.
