Personal Statement
My name is Brandon Kulakowski and I am an 19 year old post grad student at Bridgton Academy in Bridgton ME. I feel that my application would be incomplete if I didn't share with you my passion and talent while evaluating my college application. I would like to share with you what the sport of basketball means to me.
I have played basketball my whole life since I can remember. I started when I was 3 years old and have been playing ever since. It has been a dream of mine to play college basketball. I have been training very hard for it. I have put in countless hours of training whether that be in the weight room or in the gym. My family and I have traveled for years and made many sacrifices for me to play in high level AAU tournaments so that I could have the experience and sharpen my confidence/game skills. I have participated in a lot of former college basketball players camps. I have also been to a lot of high level camps like Hoop Group which is an overnight camp with many college basketball coaches and players. Through various evaluations at these high level/skill camps I was told that I needed to get lower in order to increase power and speed even though they were impressed by my shooting and offensive abilities. Surprisingly, I wasn't as athletic as I am today. So, I drove myself to lose weight and get faster on my feet laterally and increased my speed and agility.
I feel I have been fortunate and have had a great opportunity with my family. My Dad has played college basketball which has helped because he can give me advice and help with any questions or concerns I have regarding playing basketball currently and at the next level. Also I have an older brother who is a senior in college and he has played college basketball for 4 years. He has helped me get better by training with me and driving me to get better everyday.
My short term goal for the following 4 years is to be an impact player on a quality college Mens basketball team while accomplishing a 4 year bachelors degree at a great college. My hope is that my hard work and dedication will pay off in both academics and in the sport of basketball.
I look forward to your evaluation and determination.
