Personal Statement
Hello Coaches,
Firstly I'd like to thank you for viewing my profile it and I am truly grateful,
My name is Vertell Dunham Jr and I had a rather unique road to this point in my basketball career, I remember starting to play basketball at around 13 which is a rather late age in comparison to other athletes. In my youth I played an array of sports and recreational activities such as, football, bike riding, skateboarding, rollerblading, karate, I was reluctant to try basketball but when I got used to the sport through studying it I fell in love, I fell in love with the hard work and the slow and steady progress I saw, I loved the fact that the amount of work you put in was in direct correlation to how good you became and I stuck by that truth. I played for The Springfield Eagles at Queens preparatory academy and there I was able to see my hard work and growth become a reality, I played Center and Power forward at my school and that's what contributed to my balance as a player, that was my foundation. I loved banging bodies down low and I took pride in protecting the paint, My home. I did graduate high school averaging about 4pts, 6rebs, and a free throw percentage of about 85%. I was able to re-position myself into the guard position, this is what makes me unique, I had to dedicate my time to getting lighter, quicker as well as stronger, learning my correct positions on the floor, and transition from not taking a single three point shot in high school
