Personal Statement
Joining the varsity basketball team my sophomore year in high school taught me that I must earn everything that I want on and off the court. After 7 seniors graduated, I learned how to quickly develop leadership skills that were desperately needed. I was counted on to be our best scorer, rebounder, and defender in only the matter of one year. Going from 6th man on the bench my sophomore year, to becoming captain my junior year, made me mature as a player and as a man in the world. I had to rise to the occasion, but also help the team rise up with me.
I believe that the skill that I portray on the court is not only college talent, but the traits that I hold are ones that cannot be taught. The drive to be the best shows on the court and in the weight room, the leadership to help guide a team of underclassman to be the best of their ability, and the character and personality to create bonds that are inseparable with my teammates and others are all traits that I am proud to have. More importantly, my grades and classroom work ethic are great based on the fact that I challenge myself as much as possible in school. As a student athlete who has been tested repeatedly, I know that I have what it takes to play basketball on the college level.
