I have had a ball in my hand for as long as I can remember. The moment I touched the ball I knew that I wanted to be the best at it, and I have worked hard to have my dream realized. While my 5th grade friends were playing Fortnite video games, I spent my summers at the community park practicing for 5-6 hours a day to develop me. I focused on mental strength and ball agility. On the court, I am very athletically sound too. I am a slasher who can also knock down the three ball, and team coordinator who can penetrate gaps and create layups. I am a leader in and out of the locker room. I am very coachable, and I always aim to be a good example to my teammates. My ball mentality: "WE before me". I am a huge fan of "team ball".
I go just as hard off the court as I do on the court. At 12, I was identified as "gifted" and accepted into the Duke TIP Scholars program. I am a member of the National Honors Society, A Honor Roll Club and currently maintain a 3.8 GPA. I am member of various clubs, work part-time at Olive Garden and during the summer assist my High School Basketball team in coaching our Junior Pumas Basketball Camp (grades 1-8), I intern at a local Law Practice, and attend as many family reunions as possible (my aunties can cook!).
I plan to attend a college that can help me realize all my dreams. I dream of attending a college that will encourage and help me advance my educational and basketball skills to the highest level of competition possible. I dream to not only be the best player but to be the best version of myself and of course build lifelong friendships along the way. Hi! My name is Matthew, nice to meet you, too.
