Personal Statement
Playing basketball since the age of 5 has only shown me the evolution of the game, I begun to realize that this game not only speaks on the court but can show your character off the court by the way you carry yourself on the court. Basketball came of interest to me because of the family I can build around this sport which connects others and making it a brotherhood. I have learned my leadership on the court can lead to me being a leader off the court being able to talk my teammates through can help me help someone in situations off the court like in the classroom. In the classroom I try to not only meet the standards of the teacher but to go above and beyond which is why I feel my academics is one of the strongest things about me. My goals for academics is always to give it my best shot and if there are any questions I have I must ask them because I am never right about everything which is why I learned asking questions on the court is important. In college I want to be the same person who ask those questions to be able to achieve any academic goals I set place for myself.
Basketball not only has made me a better person but has also showed me unique skills I posses. Skills such as me being analytical on the court and most importantly being for the team over myself. I have learned my role will always change no matter who I play for because it is the best thing for the team so we can win games and championships. That is one thing I have had to do which ultimately helped our team make it to the state championship game although we were not able to compete. Obstacles always present themselves in the game and I am able to overcome and become a better player but also a great teammate. I know my skill set and mindset will help any team I will play for which is why I know I can fit in with teams at the collegiate level.
