Personal Statement
Dear coaches, thanks for taking a look at my profile. I am a 17 year old 6'8 Center/Power Forward from Columbus Ohio and I'm looking to attend a selective DIII college or university where I can play basketball and get a top-notch education. I have a 31 act score and a 4.25 GPA with a curriculum full of honors and AP classes. I have tried to develop a modern game for the post position. I have a reliable mid-range jump-shot, an improving three-point shot, and I am a capable passer and ball handler from the post and perimeter. I also have the traditional aspects of a center, rebounding on both ends of the floor, and playing strong interior defense. I'm a pass first type of player, and a win for the team is always more important than a win just for me. I love setting hard screens.
My high school has a long tradition of winning, including two Ohio Central District titles (Div3 and Div4) in our last two seasons. During my sophomore season, I averaged about a double-double on JV. My junior year (2019) was my first season playing full time varsity and, due to playing behind an all-state athlete (in both basketball and football, now playing football for the university of Iowa) in my position, I didn't get many minutes of play (8 minutes average per game). My best game as a junior was a double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds). Going into my senior year, I am looking to have a breakout season as one of only two seniors on my team, and I am hoping that any coaches interested in me now will keep an eye on me as I play out my final season of high school basketball.
As my dad says, I come by my size naturally. While my coach has me in a weight-lifting routine, I don't weigh 230 because of the lifting. I'm solid. The football coach always wanted me to bulk up and play offensive tackle but I love basketball. I haven't achieved anything on the court or in the classroom without hours of hard work, and I'm ready to work hard for whatever program recruits me.
