Personal Statement

Since I was young, I have loved the game of basketball and as I have grown, I have become even more motivated to work hard and develop my talents and pursue my goal to play basketball collegiately.  I have also been very observant to everything taking place with the transfer portal and to be honest, I want to find a school that I can spend four years developing great relationships with my coaches and teammates while winning as many games and championships as we can for our program.

I have been told by many, including my father who played college basketball, that the commitment requires a great deal of discipline and hard work, which I am confident my daily routine is already preparing me for. I pride myself on being coachable and open to development and will continue to work and prepare for the opportunity to compete and have a positive impact for whatever team I play on.  Away from the court, I work hard in the classroom to be a great student and a well-rounded young man and I am fortunate to have great parents who support and push me to be my best.

  • PG 2023 Top Prospect report: Halligan is another interesting two-way prospect, as the the long, lean right-hander ran his fastball up to 85 mph and showed exceptional feel for his two-pitch mix during his two innings of work. The projectable 6'4/190-pound third baseman displays smooth, clean actions in the dirt and has plenty of arm strength (85 mph in drills) to stick on the left-side long term. At the plate, he implores his long levers to his advantage and creates tons of leverage and impact out in front.

  • Excellent Showcase performance. Improved my 60yd time as well as Exit Velo and Infield Velo and had a great BP session hitting 9 of 10 balls solid. In game play the solid contact continued, for the weekend I was 4 for 6, a triple and three singles, scored twice and had a RBI. In the field, I was golden with the glove all weekend playing 3B, SS and 2B. Perfect Game had multiple write ups on my performances. PG articles: Zachary Halligan (2023, OH) led the way for the 2-Columbia Blue offense going 2-3 in the game. Halligan is hitting .500 through 3 games. Halligan (2023) is ranked on the High Follow list by Perfect Game. PG notes: Zachary Halligan (2023 3B, Uniontown, OH) picked up two hits on the day, one of which was a hard triple to centerfield. Halligan has a tall and lean frame standing at 6’3”/185 and showed good feel for the barrel. PG notes: Zachary Halligan (2023 3B, Uniontown, OH) is a big righthanded hitter and used the whole field to show off the barrel skills and hittability. Halligan had two ground ball singles in this one, notching a single up the middle and one to the pull side. He's got some feel to manipulate the barrel and a knack for hitting them where the defense isn't.

  • PG Top Prospect Team: Zachary Halligan is a 2023 3B/1B with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Uniontown, OH who attends Walsh Jesuit. Large frame with a strong build proving to be physical. Ran a 7.79 second sixty yard dash. Primary Third Baseman, works well into the baseball as he gathers it out front. Glove proving to be clean as he shuffles into transfers. Was accurate from different arm slots as he threw it 77 mph during drills. RIght-Handed Hitter, sitting on back side before striding out as he creates separation with his hands. Strong hands generating a heavy barrel through the zone as he proved to have some pop to the pull-side. Power starting to show as well as he generated some backspin. Outstanding Student.

  • PBR Newcomer report: Report: A guy we are very high on is two-way talented Zach Halligan (Walsh Jesuit HS). We could have easily listed him on the “sleeper” part of this article because he may be somewhat under that radar but the ceiling is through the roof. Halligan stood out right away at this years’ Central Ohio Prospect Games at 6-foot-4, with athleticism showing in all facets of his game. Ball flies off the barrel, he can pick it over at third base and is also a mid 80s guy off the mound. Expect him to factor in for perennial power Walsh Jesuit next year on both sides of the ball where he has a chance to make big jumps to the power and the fastball as he fills out that frame. A lot to like here.

Training

  • MAQ Training (Mobility, Agility, Quickness)
  • 2 years
  • MAQ Training evaluates every athlete in retrospect to his or her sport, then develops a dominating sport specific training program for that athlete. My focus in working with Dave Schierbaum and his staff weekly has been through intense workouts that pushed me beyond what I thought was my limit and showed me that I have the ability to do more. The training was not just weights or plyometrics as one may think but was heavily focused on incorporating all of the necessary skills utilized to play at a high level.
