When I was little, I always knew that I wanted to be a college basketball player. From tumbling to little-league baseball, I’ve always been on the move. Although I participated in three other sports during high school, I’ve always known that my heart is set on basketball. When it comes to basketball season, I work hard. Whether it be on or off the court, I strive to have a great work ethic, which I think is an important part of college basketball career. When I am off the court I am either studying to maintain my GPA, working at my part time job or spending time with family.
I continually strive to become a better person at home, during practices and games. I was inducted into the National Honor Society as well as the Spanish National Society. I also help out in the community by volunteering my time to help unload food for the food pantry. Additionally, I work part time in the fast food industry. All of these things have shaped who I am and have helped me focus and stay determined to give back to the community and to better myself as a person.
Throughout my career, I have grown as a person and a player. My sophomore year was my toughest year; my playing time was limited on the varsity level. I used that to motivate myself and became both the leading scorer and a Division 4 Honorable Mention selection my Junior year. Additionally, during my Sophomore year I averaged a little over one point a game and 4 minutes playing time; driven by a passion for the game, I dedicated the off season to becoming a better player. My Junior year I was able to improve my game drastically and became the team captain, averaging 11 points per game.
Tournament play my junior year taught me about communication, leadership and working together as a team. Even though we lost in the Districts, the experience helped me grow as a person and led me to re-focus my efforts on becoming a solid shooting guard and a leader.
My goals for senior year are to lead the team into a great season by encouraging communication and pushing myself and my teammates to work hard. As a leader, I hope to work closely with my teammates while also being a good role model. As a personal goal, I hope to improve my game and earn First Team in my district. I constantly want to better myself as a person and a player as I push myself to not only be first team but become a notable player in my area.
