Josh Williams '18 Recruiting Profile

My dad had a half-court slab poured in our backyard when I was 4 years old to teach me how to play the game.  I’ve participated in numerous house leagues since then, and my dad continues to coach me now through high school.

I was “Athlete of the Year” in Grade 8; received the basketball MVP award in Grade 10; and I’ve been captain of the basketball team every year in high school.  In addition, I was awarded “Offensive Rookie of the Year” for the Junior Football team in Grade 9, and I’ve been the starting Quarterback of both the junior and senior football teams in Grade 9, 10 & 12.  (In Grade 11, I was the starting wide receiver, when my older brother decided to stay on as QB for Grade 13).  I’ve also captained the varsity soccer team throughout high school. 

Outside of school sports, I am a licensed level 5 Referee for the Ontario Soccer Association, and I’ve spent most of my summers for the past 5 years refereeing games for 2 different soccer clubs, and 3 different district leagues. 

I’ve volunteered as a coach or counselor at numerous sports camps during Spring & Summer Breaks over the past 4 years.  And in July this year, I went on a church missions trip overseas, where my brother and I played basketball against a whole team of village kids at a school in northern India, which was a lot of fun even though we were playing outdoors in 120 degrees heat!

I’m passionate about sports in general, which is why I’m hoping to major in sports management at college.  I hope to find a spot on a college team where I can continue to play the game I love – basketball.
