I started playing on a competitive travel team in Windsor, Ontario (Core City Hoops) at age seven and continued playing to this day in Ottawa, Ontario (Ottawa Next Level, and for the past five years Nepean Blue Devils). I always had keen interest in basketball as my family made it a big part of our life. My older brother also played competitive and I eagerly waited for my turn. I always hoped to play at the college level and I am willing to put in the work to achieve that goal.
Basketball has a big influence on who I am today. It helped me understand that if I want something, I have to work for it and not wait for the opportunities to come to me. It also taught me the importance of discipline. Discipline helps me step up, because in basketball I sometimes have to take charge of the situation. Lastly, playing on a competitive level taught me to respect my teammates, coaches and referees, and the value of teamwork.
During the school year I play for both travel club team and my high school basketball team. Both of those teams performed on a much higher level in the past couple of years than what they were historically achieving in the past.
I train year round on improving my basketball knowledge and skills and during summers I work on my individual skills. I also train five times a week in the weight room year round to improve my strength and agility on the court. I represent my school in track and field 100 meter event (averaging 12 seconds) and use my speed and explosiveness during my basketball games.
I have high basketball IQ, excellent passing skills and creativity, quick first step and strong ability in driving to the net, a consistent shot, mental and physical toughness, and ferocious zeal as a rebounder. I am very motivated and coachable player.
I believe my grades are just as important as my basketball skills. I am in the HPA (high performance athlete) program at John McCrae High School which helps me balance sports and academics. I maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
I wish to attend a college where I can have the opportunity to be successful on the basketball court as well as in the classroom.
