Personal Statement
I started playing basketball when I was 9 years old and I loved the game from the very start. Since I have been playing basketball I've learned to be a team player and developed more confidence in my abilities both on and off the court.
Off the court I’m generally laid back, calm and quiet, but when I’m playing basketball I play with energy and the intensity necessary to do what’s needed on the court. One of my strongest assets is that I’m very coachable. I know there’s a lot I don’t know and can learn from just about everyone. When I’m learning a new skill or drill I listen carefully to the coach’s instructions and pick it up quickly. When my coach call’s a play from the bench I’m able to execute it accurately and with confidence. I’m proud to be able to execute all our team’s plays (offensive, inbounding and defense) from every position. I’m truly up for any challenge.
I’m a very strong team player and see the court well enabling me to make passes and plays that give my teammates opportunities to score and win games. Saying that, I’m not hesitant to drive the basket myself to score or make a play and enjoy making opportunities to shoot from beyond the arc. I can be a defensive specialist and am often asked to defend the opposing guard in spite of the fact I usually play the 3.
I’m a Christian who attends a Baptist church weekly with my family and also volunteer with the children’s Ministry and at summer camps. I’m a strong student and have been on the honor role each year since grade 6. I enjoy a broad range of subjects but prefer business, science and of course… phys-ed. I’m not certain what major I want to pursue in College/University but I figure that I have lots of time to decide as I’m only in grade 10. I have a small group of close friends who enjoy playing lots of different sports together, but we usually end up on the court playing HORSE or King of the Court.
It’s a dream of mine to attend a school with a strong academic reputation and represent the Men’s Basketball Team.
