Personal Statement
My goal in life is to go to college and better myself in life. When it comes to being a student-athlete, there is a reason why the word student comes first in the name. I currently hold a 4.2 GPA, and I am able to achieve this is by ensuring that my school work is completed first and always striving to get an “A”. When it comes to athletics, I am a great leader and example on and off the court. When I am on the basketball court, I am always the one to encourage the team. I sometimes come across teammates who feel that they are not skilled enough or feel like the team does not need them to win a game. I remind each player that their strengths and unique talents are what makes us unstoppable as a team. Even when we are losing a game, I remind my teammates that the game is not over and that we cannot play as if we are defeated. Even when we end up losing the game, I remind my team that we are never really defeated, because we gave it our all. I believe that anybody can put on a show when they know that people are watching. I feel that a person’s true character is revealed by what they do when they think nobody is watching. Whenever I am on or off the court, I am still the same person. This is who I am as a person, I show a good example by being a good student, and helping others like doing community service. I also do all this while being positive and happy.
I have been raised by my mom, who has been a single mother since I was a year old. I watch my mom struggle with work, raising me on her own, and go through all the hardships in order to provide for me and to be sure that I do not miss out on opportunities. From being by her side my whole life, I see that she works hard for what she has and that nothing is handed out freely to her. Those traits that my mom has as a single mother, especially with things not being handed out freely, is what makes me work harder for what I want for myself. I know that there is someone out there that wants it more than me, that is smarter than me and is better than me. That is why I strive to keep improving my game and keep up with my academics.
