Personal Statement

I have been playing basketball since elementary school.  The level of play I am at now did not come easy; I had to outwork everyone around me.  My sophomore year of high school I was shockingly cut from my school team and was very discouraged, as basketball is my drive and the only sport I want to play.  After feeling sorry for myself I got out of bed and went to work. I gained weight, found a personal trainer who played Division II in college, and I constantly studied the game of basketball with film. My junior year I made it back onto the team and even the coaches admitted, they don't normally let a player back on that has been cut - it doesn't happen. I started for JV and got a ton of playing time where I continued to build my skills and I played minimally for Varsity with a team that ended up winning the section. I then went straight into AAU this past spring, where I excelled and averaged 16 ppg and 7 rebounds and I played Varsity for my High School summer league. I have attended multiple training events recently and continue to work hard during the off-season so that I can shine on Varsity, where I plan to start.  Playing a sport in high school or college means you are a student athlete, so for me academics come before basketball. My ideal college would not only allow me to play basketball for them, but help me excel in my studies so I can be successful after college.  To this day I am grateful my coaches cut me my sophomore year because it gave me a chip on my shoulder that I play with every single game or practice. As the rumor goes, Michael Jordan got cut his sophomore year too. I have made incredible strides in the last 18 months through hard work and perseverance . Whatever team I play with, I leave 110% on the court.

“When we have to make cuts of younger guys, we use him as an inspiration,” Christensen said. “With hard work, determination, and I guess you can proving us wrong, he was able to make himself into a pretty good basketball player."

Good thing for them, not only was Chase Yarberough up the challenge, but the 6’2 senior forward would end up putting forth an all-around effort that was so outstanding that he instantly become the topic of discussion throughout the entire league, literally overnight

First off, I cannot speak highly enough of Chase Yarberough as an athlete and as a person. This is a rare opportunity to find a basketball player of his caliber that hasn’t already been recruited for the collegiate level. My hope is that you get the opportunity to cross paths with this young man who plays with a chip on his shoulder, is extremely talented, and can guard almost any position on the court. With his length, scoring ability, extremely high basketball IQ, rebounding, strength, and speed I believe he would best be utilized as a combo forward playing any position 2-4. I hope you understand his story and how he has inspired so many by overcoming adversity by never giving up. To where he is today as a basketball player, I have no doubt that he can contribute almost immediately to your collegiate program. This player has the X factor that is so rare to find in today’s athletes.

If you’d like to know more, please feel free to contact me directly if I can further elaborate on what Chase Yarberough has to offer.

“This is NO SURPRISE TO US, he has hit game winners, buzzer beaters etc. Chase Yarberough is a special player, TEAM 1st type of guy who accepts and excels in any role given,”

-SPOOKY NOOK BASKETBALL

Yarberough, a JV last year and cut from the JVs the year before, was superb in his last high school game and scored 24

- LNP

I believe Chase is a late bloomer in the class of 2020. He has an above average hoops IQ and great length that can take on some bulk if he gets on a college level weight program. He is a lefty with a good handle, a quick release, shoots well from the arc, midrange and foul line and has an ability to get to the rim if needed. He defends well and is a very good shot blocker.

Chase is a quiet leader and could be more vocal but he usually lets his hustle and unselfish play speak for itself. He is a great teammate and extremely coachable. Chase listens, learns and never makes the same mistake twice. I recommend him without hesitation to any college program that is interested in him.
