I am a very hard-working, adaptable and focused basketball player. I currently am a freshman at Allderdice High School where I will start for junior varsity and play for the varsity team. I worked with both teams through the summer. In past middle school and club seasons, I have rotated through all five positions depending on the our team and our competition. For both the high school and AAU seasons, I am working to expand my skills to become a stronger power forward, improving my rebounding and strengthening my post play. In addition to court play, I am working hard to gain weight along with my height. I have also started to work with the Director of Sports Performance Training at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex in Pittsburgh on a weight training program that is focused primarily on my flexibility, balance, and core strength at this stage.
Outside of my play and position, my biggest strengths are the intangible contributions that I make to every team on which I play. I am a strong and supportive player, and am working on becoming a more vocal court leader. I work very hard on the court and try adjust to my coach and my team to contribute however I can. I want to set a good example for my teammates and make our team chemistry even better. My middle school team won its first city championship two years ago, which we repeated last year. My AAU team was undefeated in eighth grade tournaments this year, and lost only two games when playing in ninth grade tournaments.
I also play volleyball, including on the 14U and 17U USVA club TopFlight teams last season. I was a middle hitter for the 14U team, and a right side for the 17U. This year, I intend to play for my high school, and again during club season. Volleyball has helped me with my vertical jump and core strength. It also is teaching me a different way to see how a game develops, and how to work with teammates in a system. These skills are improving my basketball game. The hitting and blocking skills I am learning are also definitely improving my shot blocking on the basketball court.
Off the court, I am part of CISV, an international youth leadership organization with which I have participated since I was 7 years old, traveling to Germany and to Portugal as a representative of the United States along with students from all over the world. Beginning in kindergarten, I spent three years living in the Netherlands, which is where I started playing basketball with BC Kimbria in Maastricht.
My goal is to attend an academically challenging university where I can play basketball at a high level in a role that allows me to continue to develop my skills and contribute to a team’s success.
